The work of EHC in Papua New Guinea [PNG] is truly a frontline ministry!
Our dedicated pioneer missionaries are enduring hardship and often taking great risks to spread the Good News of Jesus to the towns, villages and remote places of this diverse land. PNG is predominantly rural, with fewer than one of every five people living in an urban centre. This makes it all the more challenging to reach every home with the Gospel.
This year, Papua New Guinea has experienced the most severe political and constitutional turmoil in the nation’s history. Prior to the recent national elections the prime minister was re-elected three times in a span of nine months! In the heat of the election campaign many of our EHC workers have often been caught in the midst of tense and troubling situations, but God has protected them in every circumstance. Those who work in the highlands have endured the most—sleepless nights, exhaustion from climbing up and down mountainous areas, crossing rivers and walking for hours and hours, day after day. They are determined!
Let me tell you about some of their experiences as foot soldiers in this great work…
In Enga Province, EHC workers reached a primary school after walking for many hours. They met with the headmaster and to their surprise he asked them to give a gospel tract to every teacher and one for every child to take home to their parents. They received them with joy. The headmaster also requested some EHC booklets to keep in the school library for the children to read. Praise the Lord!
Twelve EHC workers in Western Highlands labored tirelessly to reach homes, settlements and street kids with the Good News of Jesus. Mass open-air meetings were also conducted, with many lives touched, healed, delivered and restored by the power of God. The Lord is giving great breakthroughs! There were many requests for EHC workers to teach various groups, and calls to reach the Eastern Highlands with the Gospel. I believe it is ripe for harvest.
In Umbimi, a village in Southern Highland Province, EHC worker Benny Ritako visited the home of Fongea, a man with two wives and 15 children. When Fongea heard the Gospel message—for the first time in his life—he responded with joyful faith in Jesus. Benny reports that Fongea told him, “Oh my son, this is the very first time in my life and my family to have a man of God come to our very doorstep to share this good news. Thank you for coming with this message!” Truly the harvest is ripe!
Our God is a miracle-working God! Western Highlands EHC workers Miti and George visited a home where Rachael, a mother of three, had been paralyzed for 15 years. She was lying on her bed without any hope, awaiting death, when our workers shared the message of hope found in John 3:16. She responded to God’s word and gave her life to the Lord. Miti and George then prayed earnestly for her healing. Rachael was instantly healed! Through tears she sang for joy! Only God can bring such hope and healing to a desperate soul. All glory to Him!
God’s word says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab. 2:14) This is God’s plan—that the knowledge of His glory, power and salvation will spread across the nations of the earth like a flash flood. Not a single dry spot. No country, city, town, village, family or individual without the message. “The whole earth will be full of His glory.” Amen!
It is a great joy to share with you what the Lord has done and is doing in Papua New Guinea. May God bless you for your prayers and financial support that enable this work to move forward by faith.
