Today, we have successfully distributed Gospel material throughout the entire nation of Nepal. In response, over 360,000 people have been followed up. As we begin the journey of discipleship, Christ Groups grow. As a result, over 9,000 Christ Groups have been established.
Here is a glimpse of the risks Christ followers are taking for the Gospel.
Our team packed up before dawn. Boxes of discipleship training and Gospel tracts were stacked into our vehicle. Our journey was just over 500 km – but the winding, rugged roads made it a difficult trip. Finally, after more than 16 hours, we arrived.
The next day 42 Christ Group leaders came from seven districts of Mid-Western and Far-Western regions of Nepal. Some walked two whole days to get to the vehicle from their villages. Despite the challenges to get our leaders in one place, it was a time of great energy – no one seemed tired.
For four days we poured over the training material. Then as we were ready to leave one man came to us with a personal request.
He is a sub-Inspector from the Nepal Armed Police Force who accepted Christ as his Lord after receiving a tract that asked: “Are you happy?”
He invited the leaders of the training to come to the police camp where he was stationed. We were glad to do so, as the camp was on our way back.
We met him the next day. After the lunch he said, “Sir, let’s go to the bunker for prayer.”
We walked along an underground path and came to a narrow doorway. We squeezed through the door and entered a small room. I expected to see guns, bullets, an arsenal – but when we got into the room we saw a Nepali Bible, two Christian songbooks, a tambourine, and madal (a Nepali typical drum).
Bible verses were written on small pieces of papers and posted on the walls. We were amazed and asked, “Brother, what is this? It seems like a place for fellowship?”
Even before the words were spoken, he said, “Sir, this is the place where I spend time in prayer. Once every day I pray here. Those who work under my command are taught here from the Bible. At first there was just me, but now there are six members in our prayer group. Two others are just starting to know Jesus. I believe many from our camp will know Him and accept Him in the days to come.”
Shocked, we asked, “Does your senior officer know about it? Do you face any difficulties for having fellowship in this bunker?”
“Yes,” he said, “My senior officer knows it along with the other colleagues. Despite the opposition at the beginning, God gave me the strength to win the battle as I asked Him for it. I am planning to have the fellowship even if I would be transferred from here to other places. Please pray so that I may win many soldiers in Christ.”
This young offi cer has chosen a very difficult route. There is opposition on every front. He is standing with 6 other Christians in an area where thousands of armed police live.
Yet God has chosen him to speak. This is an amazing example of God’s miraculous grace!
